Filmmakers Are Now Allowed the Use of Drones

As of today, American filmmakers are now allowed to use unmanned aircraft systems - better known as drones - during production.


This announcement was made by the Federal Aviation Administration, who has allowed six video and photo production companies access to the United States' National Airspace System.


A number of restrictions have been placed on the use of the drones, however. First, they are only allowed on closed sets, cannot be more than 400 feet in the air, must be within sight lines, cannot fly at night, and any planned drone activity must be reported to the FAA prior to use so air traffic can be monitored accordingly.
